Victor Tootoo

Victor Tootoo is a partner and General Manager for Aarluk Consulting. Victor comes from a large family with 47 first cousins. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta and has lived in every province and territory in Canada except BC, Yukon and the Maritimes. He lived in Rankin Inlet for a number of years where he was actively involved in the community as the founding president of the Rankin Inlet Volunteer Fire Brigade. He currently lives in Iqaluit since 1997, where he is an active volunteer, including past president of the Iqaluit 2002 Arctic Winter Games Host Society and president of the Iqaluit Senior Men’s Hockey Association. He is an avid sports enthusiast and has four children. They are: Anthony Mercredi-Tootoo, who also lives in Iqaluit, Savannah Pilakapsi, Christine Tootoo, and Donovan Gordon-Tootoo all of whom live in Rankin Inlet.

Prior to obtaining his Business Administration Diploma Victor worked at many jobs including Bartender, Cargo handler, Trapper, Guide, Mine worker, Cook, Postal worker, among many others. Since then he has worked with Keewatin Tribal Council in Northern Manitoba, the Government of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.

Starting in 1998 at the Government of the Northwest Territories, Victor served as Assistant Deputy Minister in Finance and Health and Social Services and as Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Executive & Intergovernmental Affairs. In September 2005, Victor became the first Inuk in Canada to receive a professional accounting designation through the Certified General Accountants Association of Nunavut/NWT. In January of 2008, Victor left the government to start his own business and in October 2009, Victor formally joined Aarluk Consulting after a long history of successful collaboration.

The land and family are very important to Victor and his hobbies are closely tied to them. They include hunting, fishing, and camping with family.
